Yuqian’s art practice is derived from doll photography, which she started practicing when she was a kid. Inspired by the visual beauty of these mass-produced toy dolls, her paintings discuss the cultural context about the meanings behind objects that are human beings’ artificial imitations. While she proceeds to explore the borderline of life and lifelessness in her work, she captures the sublime aesthetics of ideal humanoid form worshipping in doll images she creates.
