The BurkholderProject, located in downtown Lincoln’s Haymarket District, is a unique collection of 36 art and design studios with loft apartments and three levels of galleries, connected by a sunfilled atrium. The Project was designed and developed by artist Anne Burkholder, who bought the building in 1987. It was her idea to create a place where a community of artists would have excellent work spaces, as well as a support system of other creative people. Dr. Dennis Downey and Julie Downey have owned and operated this family business for over 23 years, developing an unprecedented collection of international artists unrivaled in the Southwest. With two locations and over 5,000 square feet, they represent more than 40 artists, including Russian master Nikolai Blokhin (exclusively), along with the great plein air painter Andre Shirokov, and world renowned Spanish painter Roman Frances and newly acquired Italian realist Licio Passon. Dennis Downey, a well respected artist in his own right, paints scenes from the West as well as his travels throughout Europe. They also represent a collection of fine bronzes by nationally known James-Menzel Joseph, Sandra Filippucci and Leroy Transfield. The second location at 112 W. San Francisco St. is just off the Plaza.
